Ensuring continuous school operations
(Mugu village, Himalayas, Nepal)

Mugum village is a key area for Yarsagumba collection and trade. Each year, hundreds of people come to collect herbs, and during this time, the village is nearly empty. Parents often take children to the forests for up to a month, disrupting school operations. Even though the school administration strictly monitors student attendance, it has been difficult for parents to manage the situation because there is no one in the village to look after the children.

Additionally, residents travel to nearby Tibetan markets (opens for 15 days only in a year) for essential goods, taking students along and affecting their studies.

To address this, the school is planning a residential program for about 45 days.

A letter from the very motivated teacher who takes care of the children:

Dear Claudia Ricica and Thinley Lama,

I hope this message finds you well.

On behalf of the school located in a remote village, I would like to express our sincere gratitude for your generous support and willingness to listen to the needs of students from low-income and marginalized communities. Your commitment to continuing the school residency program during the Yarsagumba expedition and trade period in China for 45 days is truly commendable.

This initiative will greatly benefit the children by ensuring regular attendance, reducing absenteeism, and safeguarding their fundamental right to education. It will also contribute significantly to improving the overall educational outcomes of the students.

Please find attached the estimated budget sheet required for the establishment and management of the proposed school residency program. We kindly request your review and support for its implementation.

Thank you once again for your continued support and dedication to the cause of education.

Yours sincerely,
Rajesh

Bridge construction & Expansion of Buddha Park
(Mugu village, Himalayas, Nepal)

my passion project

In Nepal, tragic deaths occur repeatedly because people try to avoid the long detours to the nearest bridge. To get to school, the market, .. on the other side more quickly, they risk crossing the river – either by swimming or balancing on tree trunks.

Some time ago, the desire to build a bridge arose within me. Thanks to the support of Lama Thinley, I was finally able to realize this project in Mugu village.

Mugu Village is located in a remote area in the Himalayas on the border with Tibet. The village can only be reached after a two-day trek; there are no roads. All goods must be transported on foot or by horse.

Without the use of electric machinery, a bridge unique in all of Nepal was built entirely by hand – exclusively by the villagers. It is difficult to put into words the extraordinary achievement of the villagers.

Purchase of statues for new Gompa
(Mugu village, Himalayas, Nepal)

Above Mugu village, a highly respected 87-year-old lama has lived as a hermit for 20 years. His last wish is to see his gompa completed before his death.

The villagers had already taken care of the construction and furnishing; only three large statues were missing. We were very happy to fulfill this wish – within just three months, the shell of the building had been transformed into a magnificent temple.

Food donation
(Rara, Nepal)

On Saga Dawa (Buddha's birthday), it is traditional to distribute food to the poorest people.

We were fortunate enough to receive a list from the district administration of the 100 poorest families in the area. Each of these families received a sack each of rice, tea, salt, sugar, and lentils.

Buying a rickshaw
(Lumbini, Nepal)

Raju is a rickshaw driver and provides for his family of twelve on his own.

Since the old rickshaw didn't belong to him, he paid monthly rent – more than he earned.
The idea of providing him with his own rickshaw arose quickly. Today, thanks to his own vehicle, he can provide well for his family and offer them a comparatively safe life.

Purchase of furniture
(Kathmandu, Nepal)

At the Nyingmapa Wishfulfilling Center (Pal Ngagyur Shedrup Döjö Ling), the young monks had only beds in their rooms, with no storage facilities for personal belongings.

Therefore, twelve cabinets were financed – one for every four monks.

School material donation
(Beruwala, Sri Lanka)

During a stay in Sri Lanka, I met a teacher from a village school who reported that many children didn't even have their own pencil.

Subsequently, sets containing two pencils, a sharpener, an eraser and a ruler were financed for each of the 120 children at this school.

Supporting two families
(Beruwala, Sri Lanka)

Due to COVID-19, the borders to Sri Lanka were closed. Tourism came to a complete standstill and as a result many people lost their jobs.

Two families I've known for a long time lost their entire income as a result and were suddenly left with nothing. Thanks to the foundation's support, they were able to successfully bridge this difficult period until tourism recovers.
